A 2021 Christmas Message from our Managing Director

“2021 - Tough, but progress made!”

Starting the year in lockdown once more, 2021 has been another challenging year for everyone, as Coronavirus continues to disrupt the world. Whilst we again remained fully operational throughout the year, it hasn’t been without its significant difficulties, as we battle employee absence, materials supply issues, and significant cost increases from all our supply chain. As we look to another disrupted Christmas period, Nathan and I’s decision to keep all Covid protocols in place despite government advice, has meant our staff have, largely been able to work safe & un-disrupted.

Despite all the issues thrown at us this calendar year, we are proud to have grown further, recording a 34% increase in our turnover on the previous year. We have expanded into 2 additional premises, our Pre-Fabrication unit for the storage & cutting of profiles, and our MMC Glazing unit, now meaning our business operates in 4 units across 3 different sites. We can now look back on an extremely impressive 84% growth in the last 3 years.

We have secured over 50 projects, large and small in 2021, working on our largest projects to date, up to £850,000. Be it a number of schemes for ASHE Construction across numerous sectors, large commercial units for Volkerfitzpatrick and Readie construction, or our work to 6 ESFA Framework projects with Bowmer + Kirkland. Aside from repeat clients, we have worked for the likes of Readie, Glencar, Willmott Dixon, Stepnall, Hilton Bodill, Marlow Builders and Ardour Developments.

The most exciting development this year has been the commencement of the MMC Off-site framework, for Bowmer + Kirkland. With our work to this scheme having spanned over 2 years, it was hugely exciting for us to carry out successful trials resulting in our awarding of the first MMC project, Thames Park Secondary School, with this now forming a very important new side to our business.

Whilst installation of the curtain walling & door sets follows the standard traditional, on-site installation, MMC sees windows glazed at our factory and delivered to Innovare, pre-formed panel specialists. Our windows are then installed at their Coventry factory, before completed walls are delivered and craned into position on-site. This revolutionary process reduces time, materials, omissions, and commercial waste, with a goal to achieve Nett Zero Carbon on all of these projects.

Having delivered the MMC element of Thames successfully, we are already well advanced through West Coventry Academy, along with pre-construction work to a number of others, with a significant quantity & value of projects commencing for us in 2022. We are extremely proud to be able to work with B+K and the supply chain on this hugely exciting new way of construction, with this becoming our focus for future years to come. The upcoming workload dictates the need for a dedicated MMC team and factory space, which we moved into in November this year.

Our work to traditional schemes will also continue as ever in 2022, with a number of commercial projects secured. We are delighted to continue our working partnership with Volkerfitzpatrick on 3 projects so far for 2022 and progress our new relationship with Readie Construction on a further 2 schemes, having secured our first 2 with them in 2021.

Nathan and I, along with all our staff, have felt the effects of the hard work required this year, and so are closing early this Christmas, giving us all a much-needed extended break, as we look to recuperate and come back fresh for what promises to be a very busy 2022.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

- Richard Trasler, Managing Director.
